In 1965 Albert decided to move to the outskirts of Paris and realized his dream riding academy at Domaine de Vaux: two indoor riding arenas, two outdoor arenas next to the forest, and a hundred and thirty thatched-roofed stables.

Chateau de Vaux was built in the 14th century and historians are unsure whether it was a royal hunting retreet or a lord's estate King of France Francois 1er staid at Domaine de Vaux on several occasions between 1518 and 1520. It is indeed in Carrieres Sous Bois (Mesnil le Roi's former name) that several acts of law were signed. Rumour has it that his nanny lived in the Castle.
Children of Catherine de Medicis and Henri II (Francois 1er's son) staid in Chateau de Vaux as their parents came to supervise works in progress at Chateau de Saint Germain en Laye.
